Become a PADI Open Water Diver in Maui
The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the standard entry-level certification for people who want to become fully certified scuba divers. You’ll develop the knowledge and underwater skills needed to dive with a certified buddy within the limits of your training.
Your course includes skill development with your instructor and four open-water training dives in Maui. As you progress through the course, you’ll practice essential scuba skills, develop your buoyancy control, and gain experience exploring a real ocean environment.
After completing the course requirements, you’ll earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification.
What Does the PADI Open Water Course Include?
1. Dive Theory & Knowledge Development
Learn the fundamentals of scuba diving, including equipment, dive planning, underwater principles, and safe diving practices. PADI eLearning is available during checkout so you can complete the academic portion before arriving in Maui.
2. Scuba Skill Development
Work with your instructor to learn and practice essential scuba skills in a controlled shallow-water environment. You’ll become more comfortable with your equipment as you develop the skills needed for your open-water dives.
3. Four Open-Water Training Dives
Complete four training dives in Maui while putting your new skills into practice. Your instructor will guide you in developing buoyancy control, underwater awareness, and confidence as a new diver.
Complete Your PADI eLearning Before Maui
Want to spend more of your vacation underwater and less time studying? PADI eLearning allows you to complete the knowledge-development portion of your Open Water course before your in-water training begins.
You can add PADI eLearning during checkout and complete the required coursework on your own schedule before arriving in Maui.
Be sure to complete the required eLearning before your scheduled in-water training and provide your completion record as instructed.
What to Expect During Your Open Water Course
You’ll meet your instructor at a pre-arranged West Maui dive location, where your rental scuba equipment will be prepared for your training. Your instructor will review the day’s plan, help you get comfortable with your equipment, and guide you through the required skills and training dives.
The course includes four open-water dives, typically completed as two dives per day over two days of in-water training. Dive locations may vary depending on ocean conditions and the course’s needs.
Learn to Scuba Dive in Maui
Instead of completing all of your training in a swimming pool, your Maui course allows you to develop scuba skills in an ocean environment with a professional instructor.
As your training progresses, you’ll experience West Maui’s underwater environment while developing the skills and confidence needed to become a certified diver. Dive locations are selected according to conditions and the needs of the course.
