Maui Scuba Diving at Night
Maui scuba diving at night is one of the best underwater experiences in Hawaii. We meet at sunset and walk into the ocean during the final minutes of twilight to search for turtles, sharks, and eels. Even seasoned scuba divers are fascinated by the exquisite array of nocturnal life in Lahaina. Mala Wharf in Lahaina is our favorite spot for the best night dive experience. If you have ever experienced the thrill of Mala Wharf in daylight, then you will find this dive site changes into a whole new playground at night.
Please note that night diving requires a minimum of 2 divers, and you must be a certified diver. Beginners can instead take Maui scuba diving lessons with us or check our PADI Courses page to learn to scuba dive.
During a Night Dive on Maui, you can see invertebrates like squids, sea urchins, octopus, lobsters, and crabs shuffle past coral polyps filtering plankton. Mala Wharf is full of wonderfully eerie caverns that host brightly colored soft corals and resting fish schools. The resident sea turtles go to sleep under the pier, just as large Conger Eels scour the corals for a much-anticipated evening meal.
What to Expect for Your Night Dive
We meet half an hour before sunset to set up equipment and conduct a dive briefing. Our Maui dive company set up offers you maximum convenience. We meet you with our scuba van at the beach, gear up, and walk into the ocean. Our scuba van is easy to spot, and we’ll be sure to send you GPS coordinates for Google Maps in advance.
The dive site is chosen based on the most current dive conditions, which guarantees you the best Maui scuba diving experience. While our favorite spot is Mala Wharf in Lahaina, we will send you a final dive site confirmation email the afternoon before your night dive.
