PLEASE NOTE: Maui scuba diving requires all non-certified divers to complete a PADI medical questionnaire. This medical form confirms that you are in good health for scuba diving activities. On the medical questionnaire, you must be able to answer “NO” to each of the questions. A “YES” answer for any of the medical questions will require a release from your doctor before scuba diving on Maui.

Learn to Scuba Dive

You can breathe underwater during your Maui vacation by learning to scuba dive with Banyan Tree Divers. So, meet us at the beach every day for your intro to scuba diving lessons. This is the best beginner experience to discover Maui diving and learn about the underwater world.

Your Maui scuba dive will be under the guidance of an experienced, attentive and professional PADI instructor. We guarantee small group sizes to ensure every beginner diver gets to experience the magic of underwater in a safe environment. We provide all of our guests with personalized attention, and when possible, private scuba diving lessons.

Intro to scuba diving begins with a briefing about the basics of scuba diving on Maui. Your instructor will take you through each confidence-building skill before entering the ocean. You will first get comfortable on the surface with your new scuba skills and then practice them again in shallow water. We signal to each other that we are all feeling okay to finish up our skills. At last, we hover off the sand, kick our fins, and swim away from shore to explore some of the best scuba diving on Maui.

Maui has almost year-round optimal dive conditions in sunny Lahaina, Kaanapali, and Kapalua. Maui diving means you will see an array of colorful marine life, such as sea turtles, octopus, tropical reef fish, and fields of coral reef.

Please note that learning to scuba dive is an experience program only and does not qualify for any scuba certification. However, it may be possible to use your beginner dive as credit towards earning the PADI Open Water Diver certification. If you want to get certified on Maui, check out Scuba Certifications for more details.

Maui Diving Logistics

Mornings are the best time for excellent visibility underwater, so for most dives, we meet at 9 am. We guarantee you the best Maui diving experience by choosing the dive site the day before and emailing details to you. Look for an updated email before 4 pm with GPS directions to the dive site.

Our Maui dive shop set up offers you maximum convenience. We simply meet you with our scuba van at the beach, gear up, and walk into the ocean. You have the opportunity to make two scuba dives per trip, and we discount your additional tank to $79 per person. A second dive allows us to explore the entirety of a large dive site or visit a different Maui diving site. Your second dive is often even more spectacular than the first dive because your confidence increases so much even after just one dive with our passionate and professional team. Your first scuba dive will finish by 11 am. If you choose to dive again with us, you will complete two dives by 1 pm.

High-quality underwater photos and videos are available to purchase for an additional $60 through our dive shop. Maui scuba diving pictures are a popular add-on, so please let us know if you would like to request this service.
