PLEASE NOTE: Maui scuba diving requires all non-certified divers to complete a PADI medical questionnaire. This medical form confirms that you are in good health for scuba diving activities. On the medical questionnaire, you must be able to answer “NO” to each of the questions. A “YES” answer for any of the medical questions will require a release from your doctor before scuba diving on Maui.

Scuba Diving on Maui

Breathe underwater during your vacation by scuba diving on Maui with Banyan Tree Divers. We meet you at the beach for your lessons and enter the ocean from the shore. This diving adventure is the best activity for travelers to encounter a Green Turtle at 40 feet.

We want every beginner diver to learn the magic of breathing without a snorkel in a safe environment, so our Maui dive shop guarantees small group sizes. You get a guide that is an experienced, attentive, and professional PADI instructor. All of our incredible tours provide you with personalized attention, and whenever possible, private lessons.

Every morning we begin your intro to scuba diving with a briefing about safety, necessary skills, and hand-signals. Your dive instructor will take you through each confidence-building exercise before entering the ocean. You will first get comfortable on the surface with your new skills and then practice them again in shallow depths. We finish up our practice by signaling to each other that we are all feeling okay. At last, we hover off the sand, kick our fins, and swim away from shore to explore reefs at the best sites.

The island has almost year-round optimal sea conditions in sunny Lahaina, Kaanapali, and Kapalua. So booking this guided activity means you will enjoy an array of colorful Hawaiian marine life, such as turtles, sharks, octopus, endemic fish, and fields of coral reef. In the winter, from December to April, Maui divers even get to hear the songs of Male Humpback Whales. Each whale likes to roam the Pacific channels of Molokini Crater, Makena, and Kihei in the south, to Lanai Cathedrals and Molokai in the north.

Please note that your scuba lesson is an experience program only and does not qualify for any dive certifications. However, it may be possible to use your beginner tour as credit towards earning the PADI Open Water Diver certification. If you want to get certified on Maui, check out Scuba Certifications for all the details.

Maui Diving Logistics

Mornings are the best time for excellent visibility underwater, so for most excursions, we meet at 9 am. We guarantee the best Maui diving adventures by choosing the spot the day before and emailing details to you. Look for an updated email before 4 pm with GPS directions to the site.

Our Maui dive shop set up offers you maximum convenience. We meet you with our van at a beach park, gear up, and walk into the ocean with our equipment. You have the opportunity to make two scuba dives per day, and we discount every additional tank to $79 per person.  A second lesson allows us to explore the entirety of a large dive site or visit a completely different area. Your second descent is often even more spectacular than the first one because your confidence increases so much even after just one dive with our passionate and professional team.

Your first introductory tour will finish by 11 am. If you choose to go again with us, you will complete two dives by 1 pm. After these amazing encounters, please remember not to drive up to Haleakala for 18 hours, pay to go zip-lining, or drive above 300 meters.

High-quality photos and videos are available to purchase for $60 through our shop. The photography package is a popular add-on with our guests. You can pay during checkout by requesting this service on your reservation form. So, book now to secure your Hawaii plans! You can also contact us by email and read more about our activities in the About section.
