Banyan Tree Divers Scuba is your premier scuba company on Maui. Dive shop instructors Kevin and Caitlin Maratea founded the company in 2013, and focus on taking you to the best Maui dive sites in Lahaina, Kaanapali, and Kapalua such as Airport Beach and Mala Wharf. Whether you are ready to book now or prefer to contact us first, you can trust the team at Banyan Tree Divers to create your perfect dive plan for your Maui diving vacation.
Where did our name come from?
The name Banyan Tree Divers was inspired by one of the largest banyan trees in the world located in downtown Lahaina. Scuba diving in Lahaina is a particular passion for us, so it seemed only fitting that this impressive tree should become our icon.
In 1873, standing at just eight feet tall, Maui’s future banyan tree was imported from India and planted at the courthouse square in Lahaina. This spectacular tree now shades more than two-thirds of an acre, supported by 16 trunks and standing over 60 ft. high. The banyan tree is Lahaina’s shaded heart, where local festivals take place, artists sell their goods, and many different faces come to rest. The banyan tree is a reminder for guests to enjoy the stunning terrestrial beauty of Maui. We are in the land of Aloha after all!

2. To promote coral reef and fish conservation awareness
We consider ourselves very privileged to be able to explore this delicate part of the Earth, and scuba diving with Banyan Tree Divers definitely gives sightseeing on Maui a new meaning. Divers are provided the unique opportunity to experience first-hand the coral reefs and marine life beneath the ocean surface. Unfortunately, our oceans are not as healthy as they used to be, and overfishing and shark finning practices mean they face continued degradation in terms of our fragile coral reef system, and vast losses of habitat and the near extinction of some shark species. To help protect our incredibly finite ocean resources, Banyan Tree Divers incorporates coral reef conservation awareness into all of our courses and dive briefings, with an emphasis on best practices and safe buoyancy control.
3. To grow a Banyan Tree Divers Scuba family
We want our guests to feel at home when diving with Banyan Tree Divers. Hawaiian culture has a deep-rooted respect for family, or ohana. Our guests will enjoy that same feeling of aloha knowing that Banyan Tree Divers is taking the time to make you feel welcome and safe. Banyan Tree Divers wants to grow its scuba ohana by providing guests the reliability of always having a go-to dive center on Maui.
